“He hath made everything beautiful in his time…” – Ecclesiastes 3:11 (KJV)
This year, in January, I spent time reflecting on my twenty-five years of service at my place of employment. I remembered graduating from university many years ago and contemplating the next step: finding a job. The question was: “Where will I find employment”? I recalled sending out numerous applications and attending many interviews, but I was never successful – I never received a positive response from any organisation.
Being jobless for approximately two and a half years certainly seemed like a setback to my plans, especially since all my peers were forging ahead. Of course, I felt disappointed and discouraged. Many questions lingered in my mind. Nevertheless, I decided to keep myself occupied while waiting. I went to my church every day and volunteered.
While volunteering, I seized the opportunity to grow spiritually by engaging in uplifting, beneficial activities alongside other young people. Additionally, I enrolled in Bible College to pursue a Diploma in Christian Education. I did all these things because God was speaking to me in the midst of this challenging season, and I chose to listen to His voice (Proverbs 19:21).
God was working on me and in me. He is with us when we are in the valley and when we are on the mountaintop. Valuable life lessons can be learnt in every season of life. All we need to do is stay connected, listen to His audible voice, and pay close attention to what is written in His Word. After hearing from Him, obey His instructions. (Philippians 2:13).
As I occupied myself with the things of God, I was eventually employed. He opened a door for me. He knew where He wanted me so that I could fulfill my purpose.
Today, you may be experiencing a situation similar to mine. You may be feeling frustrated because certain doors closed as you were trying to enter. You may be suffering from low self-esteem because you are not where you thought you should be according to your personal goals. Notwithstanding all this, remain focused, be assured that God is with you, and He will speak during this season of your life. Be alert and listen. He always has good things in store for His children to be given in His time. He is never late. (2nd Peter 3:8).
The question we must all ask ourselves and answer truthfully is, “Do I listen to God when He speaks?” If in doubt, then strive to become a better listener. Position yourself to hear what He is saying and be obedient. He has a plan for your life, which will last forever. With God, there is always hope once you listen and obey. (Jeremiah 29:11)
